Spinel is a transparent to opaque gemstone that displays a colorful array of red, purple, blue, green, yellow and orange hues. It is mostly found in the mines of Sri Lanka, Burma and Afghanistan. Spinel is an undervalued gemstone with outstanding properties and the price of it is still very affordable. It has been used for years in jewelry making, due to its outstanding characteristics such as hardness (8 – 9 on Mohs scale), luster, transparency and refractive index.
