Description
The Sphene is a rare collector’s stone with an unusually high refractive index and hardness of 5-5.5. A natural crystal of sphene looks like a dull, yellowish brown glassy stone on the outside. It displays a fire phenomenon: when you look at it from one direction the gemstone appears to be yellow, from another direction it can show flashes of green light – this effect is called ‘fire’ in gemstones.
